Hi friends!

I’m excited to share this DIY wood side table build we made from Ana White’s plans. Now that Finn (my 1-year-old son) is pulling up on EVERYTHING, we need sturdier tables in our living room. Our college/old apartment wobbly tables have go to go.

I was perusing Pinterest and came across Ana White’s Modern Farmhouse collection of building plans and I fell in love with the angle details and the fact that they seemed doable for Alex and I over a weekend.

I’m happy to report, this table does has a TON of character and is super sturdy. Let’s get building!

WOOD SHOPPING LIST

We used off-the-shelf pine. If you don’t like sanding, consider getting a bit nicer wood to save you time and headache. If you want a cheaper project, use the pieces below, but you will have to do more sanding.

(1) 1×10, 8 feet long
(2) 1x4s, 8 feet long
(2) 2x4s, 8 feet long

Nail Gun
Miter Saw
Drill
Kreig Jig
Felt pads or cushion
Screws – approx 10-15, at least 1.5″ no longer than 2″ – we used cabinet screws
1.25″ brad nails
Stain – I used Minwax Oil-Based Aged Barrel
Polycrilic or Ployurathane for sealant
Wood Glue
Clamps (optional)
Corner Brackets (optional – 2 packs needed/table to get the same look)

Cut List & Instructions

Cut your 1×10 into 2 pieces measuring 23.75″ and use a Kreg Jig and pocket hole screws to attach or use wood glue and clamps. This creates your two tabletops.

Next measure the shorter side of your tabletops and cut a 1×4 to size – approx. 18.5 inches.

Attach with a brad nailer and wood glue and then repeat for the long side (including the other trim so it’s a perfect box.

Cut 2x4s to: (2) 18.5″ (4) 17″ (8) 5.5″ modified rectangles with alternating 45-degree angles.
