Hi friends!

Today we’re making some super simple and affordable farmhouse stacked books. These sets can go for a pretty penny on Etsy, but I wanted to show you how quick and easy they are to make at home.

How to create farmhouse books

Step 1

After you’ve gathered your supplies, it’s time to prep your books.

If you have soft-cover books, remove the cover while leaving the spine in tact. If you have hard-cover books, remove any paper covers leaving the hard cover that is bound to the book.

Step 2

Once your books are ready for paint, grab some white paint and get to work.

For soft-covered books, paint the spine and lightly dry brush the top and bottom pages if you’d like a slightly crinkled/weathered look (optional).

For hard-covered books, paint the entire cover as well as the inside of the cover if your book has a different color outside (two of my books were white). I painted 3 coats on the spine of the books to allow it to sink into the grooves of the names to create a flatter surface.

Once dry, take stamps and – starting on the right, work your way backwards through your words. I like to use this approach so my final letter of each word is in the same spot so it looks right justified.

The trick to getting a clean stamp is pressing your stamp into the ink pad and then stamping a scrap piece of paper – then stamp your book. That will also give you the uneven, rustic typewriter look seen below.

Step 4

The final step is embellishments, and that’s where you can really make it your own. I added Dollar Tree jute twine to hold the books together and hot glued some lambs ear to the top of the book stack to finish it off. I’ve also made sets with ribbon and other greenery.
