Easy Fall Decorating Tips (from a professional decorator!)
So many of you asked to see a full home tour of my decor for Fall – unfortunately, my house isn’t going to be fully decorated this year thanks to me being almost in my third trimester of pregnancy. So in lieu of a tour, here are some of my best tips as you decorate your own home!
- Layer on the Textures – Rustic modern decor thrives on texture. Start by layering different materials to create a cozy atmosphere. Think chunky knit throws, soft wool blankets, and leather or faux fur pillows. Arrange these on your sofas and chairs to make your living spaces feel extra inviting. For a touch of rustic charm, add woven baskets for storing blankets and magazines.
- Warm Up with Earthy Hues – Autumn is synonymous with warm, earthy colors. Incorporate shades of burnt orange, deep reds, rich browns, and golden yellows into your decor. These colors can be introduced through accent pillows, rugs, and even wall art. A modern twist on rustic style can be achieved with geometric patterns and clean lines in these warm hues.
- Cozy Up the Lighting – Lighting is crucial in creating a cozy atmosphere. Opt for soft, warm lighting to make your home feel more inviting. String lights can be draped over mantels or wrapped around banisters. Rustic lanterns and candle holders can be placed throughout the house to add a warm glow and enhance the fall ambiance.
- Seasonal Scents and Flavors – Engage your senses by incorporating fall scents into your home. Scented candles with fragrances like cinnamon, pumpkin spice, or apple cider can enhance the cozy vibe. For a more modern touch, consider using essential oil diffusers with fall-themed blends. Cooking and baking seasonal treats like pumpkin bread or apple pie can also fill your home with delightful aromas.
- Create a Family-Friendly Space – Since family time is a favorite part of fall for you, focus on creating a space where everyone can gather and enjoy each otherβs company. A large, comfortable area rug in the living room can define a cozy space for game nights and movie marathons. Consider adding a large farmhouse-style dining table where family can come together for fall feasts and heartfelt conversations.
- Embrace Seasonal Decor – Incorporate subtle fall touches throughout your home. Think rustic wooden signs with fall quotes, wreaths made from dried flowers or leaves, and small pumpkins in varying sizes. These elements should blend seamlessly with your existing modern decor to create a cohesive look.
- Update Your Entryway – Welcome guests with a fall-themed entryway. A rustic wooden bench or console table adorned with seasonal decor like mini pumpkins, autumn leaves, and a cozy plaid runner can set the tone for your home. Donβt forget to add a welcoming fall-themed doormat!
- DIY Decor Projects – For a personal touch, engage in some DIY decor projects. Create your own fall garland using natural elements like leaves and twigs, or craft a rustic centerpiece from reclaimed wood. These projects can be a fun family activity and add a unique, homemade element to your decor.
- Seasonal Table Settings – Elevate your fall meals with seasonal table settings. Use earthy-colored tableware and add natural elements like small gourds or acorns as table decorations. A simple, yet elegant touch like burlap napkin rings or wooden placemats can enhance the rustic modern aesthetic.
With these tips and hacks, you can effortlessly create a cozy and stylish fall environment that perfectly reflects your rustic modern taste while fostering those cherished family moments. Enjoy the season and happy decorating!
