Hi friend!

It’s crazy to think, but April 24, 2022, marks 5 years that Alex and I have owned our home in Northern Illinois. We bought it right before we got married, and when I say we put in the work, the house looks NOTHING like it did when we bought it. The sweat equity is a real variable in this house, and we know it will pay off when we go to sell our house. Which – you heard it here first – will be soon!

Knowing this current house isn’t our forever home, I’ve started to dream of our next home and what I’d do next time to renovate the kitchen of my dreams. As we head into spring, I thought I’d share my mood board and inspiration pieces I’ve curated through a partnership with Wayfair to share some of my favorite on-trend kitchen decor pieces to help you easily find items for your kitchen, too!

I would categorize my style as a mix of modern farmhouse (think rustic woods and natural elements) and rustic boho (think black accents and natural jute textures). Here’s a 10,000-foot view of all the items I’ve selected, you can shop the direct links (and much more) through the carousel and grid further down the page.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when you read a post that is just a bunch of links without any explanation as to why it was chosen, or how to style it. So I won’t do that to you! Keep scrolling to see why I chose these pieces to share with you.

METAL AND WOOD KITCHEN ACCENTS

I’ve found when decorating it helps to have a base theme to guide you. Many folks like to use a color palette, but with a rustic vibe, I’m going more with wood tones I like vs. a color, per see. I’m looking for natural, dark wood items to bring warmth into the space. I’m also a huge texture fan, so to add another texture in I’m choosing items with a matte black finish. Shiny black metals just don’t go as well with wood tones, in my humble opinion.

Also, it’s worth noting that I’m preaching on black accents here, but I’m also sharing stainless steel appliances. I like the look of those better than the black ones. That’s my one exception. I’m loving this refrigerator and this counter level add-on for some adult beverages and juice boxes.

This backless bar stool and this metal bar stool will fit the style – but if you plan to use them daily, or have little kiddos, I’d opt for the one with the back. The metal will clean easily, too with any spills. #Momtip

From this shelf to this bar cart, and buffet table – you can add pieces like this to up your style game without having to do any renovation to your kitchen.

This gorgeous light will give you a huge bang for your buck when it comes to a wow factor. The Edison bulbs can be purchased in a variety of types of light (I like the daylight white lights) – so you’ll get an on-trend light fixture without having to have an orange tone to your beautiful kitchen. Also if you love the old-school orange lights, go for that too!

Corbels are a great way to quickly add some texture and character. It’s as simple as attaching with screws to your existing frames. Or you could hang 2 and create open-air shelves.

HOW TO STYLE A HIGH-END RUSTIC KITCHEN ON A BUDGET

The other area where you can update your space, without having to take a huge budget hit is in the style details.

Because kitchens tend to be a bit sterile, adding details like this rug, jute runner, and dark wood dough bowl can warm up your space and make it feel more welcoming and lived-in.

My favorite hack for updating cabinets is to simply swap out your hardware. These pulls are gorgeous and will really make a statement.

Utensil pots and canister sets in white will go with the overall vibe while brightening up your space. This will balance out the dark wood and the black so it doesn’t look small and dark.

Peel and stick backsplashes are a great way to add the look of high-end tile without having to break out your wet saw. And this faux-brick wallpaper is gorgeous and easy to apply.
